Cat Camp is Coming to NYC in March 2017! Interview with Meow Parlor’s Christina Ha

Cat Camp is Celebrating All Things Cats, New York’s very First Cat Centric Symposium. To be held on March 11th and 12th this year 2017. We know you aren’t going to want to miss it!

Cat Camp is Manhattan’s first feline-focused conference and adoption extravaganza. It will be held at the Metropolitan Pavilion. was honored to speak with Christina Ha, who was inspired to create NYC’s first Cat Camp. Ha is also a co-founder of New York City’s first cat cafe, Meow Parlor.

Please take a look at this fun event, especially if you are considering adopting a cat. Ha explained that they will have cats right there for adoption. “We’ll planning on having a lot of senior and special needs cats available for adoption. I think it’s important to highlight that we’re really rooting for them to find their forever homes that weekend,” said Ha.

This is Abby at – purrsonally I have adopted both a senior cat and a cat with special needs. I can tell you that both Sammy and Steinbeck were wonderful, sweet and loving pets. They were a joy each day. Sammy was a senior pet, we were his 3rd home. Steinbeck was formerly feral and trapped by a rescue group as a kitten, but still had a lot of “wildness” in him, so he needed extra TLC. But with extra TLC he became a loving, gentle cat who greeted guests to our home, was good with little ones and did not startle as easily in situations that used to make him afraid. A senior cat or a special needs cat can make an excellent pet, if you are looking for a cat or kitten I recommend you take a look at these lovely cats they have for adoption!

PurrfectCatNames: Cat Camp – the very first one! – will be held in NYC the weekend of March 11th 2017. What was the inspiration for the event?

Ha: I found my first cat in 2013 and super quickly became obsessed cats! That led to opening Meow Parlor, NYC’s first cat cafe, in late 2014. Over the past two years, I have noticed that many people are interested in learning more about cats, about how to be better owners, and how to help other animals in need. I kept thinking that there needs to be an event that brings together educational opportunities and things just started coming together!

PurrfectCatNames: Why did you choose NYC as the location for the event?

Ha: I live in NYC and I’ve been here for almost 13 years so I think of it as my home. I couldn’t have imagined doing this anywhere else.

PurrfectCatNames: You have some wonderful keynote and guest speakers! Jackson Galaxy is your keynote speaker. Lil Bub, Hannah Shaw the Kitten Lady and Kate Benjamin from Hauspanther are just a few of your guest speakers. What are some of the topics they will discuss?

Ha: I wanted each speaker to focus on the things that they are experts in, but I’m letting them decide on how to tailor it to this crowd. They’ll be covering topics from special needs cats, caring for neonatal kittens, catification, adoption, keeping cats in homes, cats as emotional beings and caring for them, wellness, and the whole shebang!

PurrfectCatNames: Should people bring their cats or kittens to the event?

Ha: My experience with cats is that most of them will probably prefer to stay home. Due to issues with liability and NYC law regarding rabies vaccinations, we’re not allowing anyone to bring their pets. However, we will have many adoptable cats and kittens available for adoption and of course, BUB will be there!

PurrfectCatNames: You have cat adoptions at the event. What is the process to adopt a cat there? Will you be able to take the cat right home from the event?

Ha: KittyKind, an all volunteer non-profit adoption group in NYC, is spearheading the adoption portion. They have been generous enough to offer other groups to also come and showcase adoptable cats. There will be many cats there from different groups and all of them have different processes.

PurrfectCatNames: What is your goal or mission for holding this Cat Camp event? What do you hope cat lovers and pet parents come away from the weekend with?

Ha: I want people to feel inspired to go home and see how they can improve the lives of their cats (even if it’s just with some more catnip!). I’ve always felt that a single person can have a huge impact if they feel the right call to action. If anyone leaves the event wanting to look for a way to save more lives, then my goal is accomplished!

PurrfectCatNames: How many people do you anticipate attending the event?

Ha: Right now, I’m projecting about 5k!

PurrfectCatNames: You’ve created this event. What are some of the topics or things you are most looking forward to about the day?

Ha: I’m excited to see some cats get adopted and to see people meeting each other; I’m really looking forward to seeing all my friends and hearing the words of our great speakers.

PurrfectCatNames: Have you started planning the 2nd annual Cat Camp? If so, will it be held in NYC or another city?

Ha: I’m just trying to get the first one down! I also can’t imagine doing it elsewhere since NYC is my home so it’ll probably be staying here for the foreseeable future.

Thank you Christina Ha, for visiting us at to share about this cat-tastic event!
